RapidShare Issues
We decided to make a page specific to RapidShare and other major file servers as we had a flood of support
emails with file server-related issues.
What Are They?
RapidShare is one of many major file servers on the world wide web. It is a website dedicated to file hosting and sharing amongst
its members. In most cases these file servers let you download files for free but with limitations.
Limitations To The End-User
If you download from these servers for free, you are probably already aware of the waiting queue. You are placed in a queue for a
set period of time before the file becomes available to download. It is like having a nag screen on a trial-version program. Some
file servers don't have these.
Note: File servers use your internet IP address to control and set limitations on your downloads.
Support For Download Managers/Accelerators
If you took time to read through all the FAQ pages and help sections on major file server websites, you will see that most of them
do not support the use of download managers and accelerators if you are not a paying user. Some file servers even have their own
software that they prefer you to use.
Download Direct is able to download from most of these file servers but cannot bypass the limitations set by them. There have been
reports that people can bypass waiting times with DLD but these are only claims. SenBit does not support the use of DLD to bypass
server limitations.
Re-directions
The current version of DLD has the ability to determine what URL's are actual files and what are redirection pages.
Some URL's can look like an actual file and end with a proper file extension (for example... /files/setup.rar) but in actual fact the
server can control the URL to take you to a web page. These pages are generally designed to let you choose mirrors or make you wait
for the file to become available.
If you get a redirection message in Download Direct (shown above), you will be asked if you want to visit the
web page. We recommend you click Yes and follow through the rest of the site to go to the actual file.
Corrupt Downloads
Over the past, we have received support emails about downloads becoming corrupt. The redirection feature above was meant to prevent
corrupt downloads by detecting if they are actual files or web pages.
What has been happening is you download a file (let's say a .rar file), you try to extract it and you get a "corrupt archive" message.
This is because if you change the extension from (.rar) to .htm you will see that it is actually the web page that has been downloaded
to the full file size detected by DLD. For example, if you had a 7MB file, the redirection page was downloaded over and over again
until 7MB was reached.
Cracked versions have changed code and do not work the same as the proper versions. If you are
using a cracked version, please do not request support.
Solution
- Make sure you are using the latest (legitimate) version of DLD.
- Follow redirections until you are taken to the actual file.
- Download at [1] connection to avoid timeouts or download errors.
- Find out from the website if they support download accelerators.
